About us
The Balavil Hotel in Newtonmore was built in 1900 and has been a family run hotel since 1983. Situated in the beautiful Highland village of Newtonmore in the heart of the Cairngorm National Park, our hotel in the Spey Valley will provide you with perfect tranquillity amongst the rolling hills and mountains. A Highland home from home with open fires, wood panelled bar and a warm and friendly Scottish atmosphere.

Relax in the bars
Relax after a long day in our lounge area and sample some of Scotland’s favourite whiskies or maybe try our local Cairngorm ales. With some fantastic names like ‘Nessie’s monster mash’, the local brewery has a wide variety to suit everyone. On occasion, local live music plays in the lounge, for details please keep an eye on our Facebook Page.
Our local ‘back bar’, or ‘shinty bar’ at the rear of the Hotel hosts memorabilia from Newtonmore’s shinty team. Surrounded with rustic décor and a roaring fire, you can enjoy a game of pool or simply enjoy a beer while soaking up the local atmosphere. There are 2 large flat screen tv’s where we show all sports, from big football games, to golf and tennis.
Relax in the pool
We have an indoor heated swimming pool available, complimentary to residents. Open from 8am-8pm, this gives you plenty of time to take advantage of this facility.
Our small pool is perfect for a play with the family or to simply relax in during your stay with us.
